FAQ’s
Q. Why do you outsource your
cabinet doors & drawers?
A.
Two very big reasons:
- First, the variety of
styles available and outstanding quality from a dedicated supplier
is far greater than can be produced in-house.
- Second, additional
door and drawer costs are virtually negated when the costs of
additional shop space and additional employees are factored in.
Q. Do you offer
finishing?
A. Yes, RiverCity Cabinets is proud to announce our new line of Pre Finished cabinetry. All cabinets are constructed with the full overlay (European) style construction method. Endless door styles, moldings, and decorative accessories are possible. We even offer 9 glazing and distressing options.
Q. What is the difference
between “custom” and “modular”
cabinets?
A. “Custom” cabinets
are designed and built from scratch, measured to exact field dimensions, and include any and
all features the client desires, space permitting. “Modular” cabinets are
stock cabinets, pre-manufactured in
incremental sizes, and installed with
fillers @ gaps to walls. Options are
limited to what the manufacturers
allow to be added.
Q. What is the difference between Frameless Cabinets and Face Frame Cabinets?
A. European cabinets
utilize a frameless construction style and install doors with a full overlay. RiverCity Cabinets constructs their frameless carcasses with a stop dado construction method. In between the mechanical connection of the dado, the glue, and the screws, this is a very sturdy box! Typically a frameless cabinetry job will take longer to install. Also, instead of scribe mould at wall ends, fillers are used. Another detail that differs from faceframe cabinetry is finished end panel treatments. With faceframe cabinets, our end panels are integrated into the cabinet. With frameless cabinets, the end panels are applied and brought out flush with the door.
Q. What makes RiverCity

cabinet shops?

apparent…

Q.
I’ve heard about natural wood expanding and
contracting.
Is this true, and what does this mean to me
in my home?
A.
Wood is a natural and
organic thing. When the air is warm and humid, wood absorbs extra
moisture and expands. In dry conditions, the wood will expel
moisture and contract. By running a humidifier during the winter and
the air conditioning in the summer, you can keep the relative
humidity at or above 50 percent to help prevent drastic moisture
fluctuations. We do our best to take the natural expansion and
contraction of wood into account when building your kitchen
Q.
What is MDF board?
A.
Medium Density Fiber (MDF) board is made from engineered wood
fibers sealed with adhesive, and exhibits exceptional stability
and an extremely smooth surface. The fibers are wetted, heated and
pressed to form a smooth, consistent thickness, great for laying
up face and back veneers. MDF board can even be made flame
retardant
Q.
Do RiveryCity products contain formaldehyde?
A.
Yes, as do many everyday products around your house, including
some paints, coatings, and cosmetics; permanent press-treated
fabrics and drapery; and certain insulation materials.
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission,
formaldehyde is a naturally occurring substance released in the
air by natural gas, kerosene, cars and even burning wood.
It’s often used in cabinetry as a glue or adhesive, and can be
found in particleboard, hardwood plywood and Medium Density
Fiberboard (MDF).
Q.
I saw a cabinet style I liked in a magazine. Can you
duplicate it?
A.
We
commonly get this request and we welcome any pictures you may have
that will help convey your ideas. As a custom cabinet
manufacturer, Rivercity Cabinets has the versatility and expertise
to design and build any style wood cabinet.
Q.
When do I need to start picking out my cabinets?
A.
It’s never too
early to start, but you may delay installation if you wait too
late. Generally, you should have most of your design decisions
made by the time the house is “dried in” (roof work is complete).
Q.
Is a down payment needed to begin building my cabinets?
A.
Yes. We ask
for a 50% down payment at the time of bid acceptance. The final
50% due is required after delivery and installation.
Q.
When should I pick out my appliances?
A.
You should make
your appliance choices as early in the process as possible. The
manufacturer, model umber, and dimensions of your appliance must
be known before you cabinets can be fully designed to custom fit
your space.
Q.
Do you provide counter tops?
A.
No, we do not
include counter tops in our bid, nor do we handle installation of
counter tops. However, we have manufacturer’s samples in our
showroom to help you in making selections and we can offer advice
to help you finalize your design decisions.
Q.
Does Rivercity Cabinets make furniture?
A. We
frequently design cabinets for our customers with built-in and/or
furniture style features. These features might be decorative legs
on a kitchen hutch, fluted casing on a living room
bookcase/entertainment center, or decorative base or furniture
legs on a study area desk. Adding these type furniture-style
features give a room contrast and distinction. However, we do not
make furniture.
Q.
Can Rivercity Cabinets provide me with references?
A. Yes!
We are happy to provide anyone interested with a resume of current
clients and projects under construction.
